Pigeon Forge's origin (along with the entire Great Smoky Mountain region) date back to the late 1920's. It was then that the federal government established a new national park in this mountain region that encompasses both Tennessee and North Carolina. This area was eventually christened the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (GSMNP). This new national park quickly grew in fame for its fascinating biological diversity and its stunning natural mountain vistas. The fall foliage grew in popularity such that today the Great Smoky Mountains attracts nearly 10 million visitors annually. Before long the GSMNP and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee was numbered amongst the most visited parks in all of the United States and greater North America. As this fame grew, the nearby town of Pigeon Forge, and the popularity of staying in a Pigeon Forge cabin rental, grew alongside. What began as a humble farming community and timber industry settlement would grow to become a thriving, world-class resort city. No doubt early locals would have had no idea what was in store for quaint, little, Pigeon Forge and it's cabin rental community. Of course, like many areas of North America, Pigeon Forge and the Smoky Mountains were first explored and inhabited by various Indian tribes. The Cherokee Indians were very populous in this area. It wasn't until the late 18th century that European settlers from the Carolinas followed the Pigeon River (pigeons were in abundance in the area) into the geographic area that became Pigeon Forge. It was after settler Isaac Love constructed an iron forge here in 1820 that the area grew to become known as Pigeon Forge TN. Another historic monument from that time, The Old Mill, remains open to the public and is now a National Historic Site. The town thrives as a resort destination with attractions aplenty and lodging including hotels and Smoky Mountain cabin rentals After 1930, when the Great Smoky Mountains National Park was first established, this region of eastern Tennessee has been subject to many changes. Before long attractions began to open up in places like Pigeon Forge in order to attract the tourist dollars of those who had come to vacation in the Smoky Mountains. Lodging facilities began to spring up as well- seeking to accommodate the growing population of tourists visiting Pigeon Forge and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park each and every year. Among the most popular of these lodging options were Pigeon Forge log cabins. These log cabins reflected the rustic beginnings of the original settlement and continue today as the most popular choice for lodging accommodations. Even today, these Pigeon Forge cabin rentals are extremely popular in terms of accommodation preference in the Smoky Mountains. Modern Pigeon Forge cabins are luxurious, fully-equipped mountain homes that offer every creature comfort imaginable. No matter what the size of your particular group (family, church or corporate group), there are numerous cabin rentals to choose from. Smoky Mountain vacationers can select from a range of one bedroom cabins for honeymooners to eight and twelve bedroom cabins for the aforementioned group meetings. Amenities include fireplace, hot tub, indoor whirlpool and fully-equipped kitchen. As always, the stunning views of the Great Smoky Mountains come standard! Pigeon
